All the horses at UConn Polo are donated by caring alumni and community members and members of the team and community value each and every horse for their individual and special traits! Along with this, the club is a student run organization not fully funded by the university. This means that along with horse donations we also greatly appreciate donations in the form of equipment (for horses or riders) or in monetary form. With these donations the program can continue to run smoothly along with have enough equipment for their lesson program to help spread the sport of polo to those looking to try the sport.
Horse Donations Needed
Recently, our herd has been struggling. We currently have 4 horses, with 2 currently injured. Donated horses will help to support a women’s team of 7, a men’s team of 4 and community members. We are in desperate need of new additions.
Since 1969, we have been fortunate to have a number of ponies generously donated to our program by community members. As part of our expansion plans and to replace aging polo horses, the Club is seeking to add new horses to the herd.
In our program, we are committed to providing quality horsemanship and enhancing a horse’s strengths. Our program would benefit greatly from your contributions, which are tax deductible.
Our Facilities
In addition to participating in community lessons and team practices, polo horses are used five days a week. As part of our polo season preparations, we ensure that our horses are in peak physical condition.
During their off-duty time, horses have access to pastures and individual housing. Our faculty and student staff at UConn provide round-the-clock care for our horses. Ponies receive regular veterinary attention as well as frequent farrier visits.
